Fan Fairness Coalition Applauds News that the Department of Justice is Weeks Away from Filing an Antitrust Lawsuit Against Live Nation-Ticketmaster
April 17 - 2024

Washington, D.C. – The Fan Fairness Coalition (FFC) today responded to reporting from The Wall Street Journal, indicating that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is preparing to file an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation-Ticketmaster in the weeks to come.

In response to the news, FFC President and Republican antitrust expert Mark Meador issued the following statement:

“Reports that the DOJ will soon file an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation-Ticketmaster demonstrates the severity of this situation and the need for action to protect fans. This will be a critical step in holding Ticketmaster and Live Nation accountable for monopolistic, anticompetitive business practices that have eroded free market competition in the live event ticketing industry and hurt millions of fans."

Washington, D.C. – The Fan Fairness Coalition (FFC) announced today several major milestones illustrating fans’ overwhelming frustration with the status quo in the ticketing ecosystem. In the six weeks since launching, fans have sent more than 72,000 letters to Members of Congress, urging them to protect live events by putting power back in the hands of fans by addressing Live Nation/Ticketmaster’s dominance.

Headlined by The Monopoly campaign, the FFC is helping live event fans across America take a stand by urging Members of Congress to take action for fair ticketing.

FFC’s board, which is headed by a bipartisan pair of antitrust experts, was launched to drive awareness and to give new opportunities for fans to make their voices heard directly to their Washington, D.C. representatives. For too long, Ticketmaster has used its control over ticketing to control access to live events, resulting in a system that does not serve fans. Despite outcries stemming from technology failures during high profile on sales for major artists, aggressive oversight from members on both sides of the aisle, and a list of empty promises to improve the system, fans continue to be denied a fair ticketing experience.
